Antique Edwardian Platinum & 18K Ruby and Diamond Halo Cloud Ring

For offer is one fantastic ruby and diamond ring circa 1910. It is set with 3 matching oval cut rubies surrounded by a cloud of claw set old mine cut diamonds! The top of the ring is platinum and the shank is 18K yellow gold. It has been polished and cared for recently by my jeweler. It is a size 5 US, weighing approx. 5 grams. The rubies do show some age and have some abbrasions on the table / face of stones in consideration to being over 100 years old and well loved. My jeweler has indicated they are likely synthetic as many colored gems in this period were, especially being this well matched in color. The diamonds are excellent and sparkle just like glitter. The ring is remarkable and so comfortable to wear! It sits low on the hand. The ring is in perfect condition for it's age as I have had it professionally cleaned & secured in downtown LA's jewelry district. Total diamond weight is approx. .40 carats and the ruby weight is .90 carats!

ruby zoasite and silver dangle earrings, rustic oxidized earrings, metalwork and stone earrings

Elegant little earrings combine rustic faceted ruby zoasite stones with oxidized silver.

I torch fused rings from fine silver wire, hammer textured them soundly, and wire wrapped the dark ruby-red stones to them.
All hang from my own cold forged sterling French-style ear wires, hammered gently for strength and shape retention.

Metal components - both fine and sterling silver - have been oxidized and hand polished to a rich 'aged' patina. The faceted pyrite adds a wonderful flash and sparkle!

Total length from top of ear wire: 1 3/8 inches, or 3.5cm.

Vintage Style Dark Red Ruby Solitaire with Tiffany Mounting in Sterling Silver

This vintage style Tiffany mounting solitaire ring features six prongs, which securely holds a beautifully cut round 6 mm, laboratory grown ruby. This stone weighs approximately 1 carat. The sterling silver mounting is brightly polished, but can also be antiqued (darkened) if you prefer.

When I began working at the jewelry store that was my first job, I was puzzled to learn that the typical four-prong "Tiffany-style" solitaire mounting that I had grown up seeing was actually considered one of the least secure ring mountings. The bench jeweler would often shake his head over the number of these broken mountings that found their way across his bench.

The reasoning was simple. With a four-prong mounting, if one of the prongs becomes damaged there is a fairly good chance that the stone may be lost. However, with a six-prong mounting, losing or damaging a prong will not lead to loss and sorrow - there are five other prongs that hold the stone safe.

1900' s Samuel Jacob Bristish Hallmark S.J. Stamped Sterling Ruby Amethyst Art Nouveau Collector Item Spring Gift 4 Her

Collector piece !

Rare ring by British silversmith Samuel Jacob, active in London at the end of 19th century beginning 20 th.
The ring is stamped with his hallmark S.J.
And 925
It features a genuine ruby and a beautiful natural amethyst.

This wonderful ring is typical of the very progressive style of Samuel Jacob .
He produced Victorian pieces, but then right from the beginning of the 1900's Art Nouveau jewelry already announcing Art Deco.
Proving so to be part of that cutting edge mouvance which sprouted and bloomed in Germany at the time, the Bahaus.

Those creators actually brought on very early the Art Deco revolution which did spread all over Europe and USA in the 1920' s and 30's

So a very interesting piece, not only very pretty. But stunning work of one of the most creative creator of the 1900' s

Lab Created Gemstones: Lab created gemstones are made of the same mineral composition as natural gemstones, and are created in laboratories with equipment that simulates the high pressures and heat that nature used to created the real gemstones far beneath the surface of the earth. A lab created gemstone is identical to the natural gemstone it replicates in every way; color, hardness, composition, luster, looks etc.

It seems odd that when comparing the price of a lab created gemstone which is flawless, against a natural gemstone which has inclusions, that we would knowingly pay for a natural gemstone, many multiples of the price of an identical flawless lab created gemstone, but this is a result of our culture, and the the jewelry industries marketing efforts. Remember a lab created gemstone is identical to a natural gemstone, except that the lab created gemstone is flawless. Because of the high price of natural gemstones many gemstones sold today are lab created.

This is the slightly fancier and larger version of my clockwork steampunk ring - a great statement cocktail ring! High quality steampunk ring I made with a genuine antique mechanical watch movement with exposed real ruby jewel bearings and gears set on wide silver plated adjustable ring.

ABOUT THE DESIGN:
The Victorian era was a bridge between old traditions and new technologies. At the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert received the first mechanical keyless wind watches, making pocket watches and watch fobs popular for both men and women until the mid 20th century. While pocket watches had been worn for more than a century, wrist watches were introduced around 1900, called "wristlets" were introduced, in part because of the development of a more affordable jewel bearings production process, which made smaller, more accurate watches possible. Assumed to be a passing fad, wrist watches caught on and were most popular in the 1920s and 1930s, which is why most of the watches I work with are Art Deco from this period. An emblem of a past era of craftsmanship, these mechanical watches have real or synthetic jewel bearings, originally made with ruby, garnet, diamond, and sapphire. Many watches have the name of the watch maker, intricate tooling or design work, seen only when the watch was repaired, cleaned, and maintained. Wear History.
