Like most rubies on the market today, it has been heat treated and lead glass filled. These treatments have been standard in the gem world for about 30 years. This is visible with a 10X loupe. Most likely the rubies at your local upstanding jewelry store have had these treatments. This allows those of us that cannot afford the thousands-of-dollars-a-carat untreated ruby to be able to enjoy a beautiful cost effective gem.This stone is of a quality that could have been cut with facets, but has been cut in a beautiful cabochon with wonderful inner glow.
