Antique Indian Navaratna Ring Gold 9 Gem Protection Amulet Man Woman (#5751)

Antique men's or women's ring. 18k gold and 9 gem stones (see below). Made in India early 20th century.

Measurements: approximate ring size is US 6. Can be resized. Length of bezel (not including shoulders) approx 1/2 inch (13 mm). Width is slightly less (approx 11 mm). Weighs 5.6 grams. Each of the 9 stones is very approximately 20 pts. 

Navaratna is a Sanskrit compound word meaning "nine gems". Jewelry created in this style has important cultural significance in almost every Asian religion. The arrangement of the gemstones is a metaphor for the universe and besides it's complex spiritual, cosmic and personal significance, offers protection to the wearer from all directions. See list of stones and their order below. The ruby, representing the sun, is always in the center. 

The ring can be worn by either a man or a woman. Such importance is given to this combination of nine gems that they are recognized as sacred and royal in almost all the countries of Asia. 

Marks: none, as is to be expected in a ring of this age. Gold acid tested at least 18k. 
Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures.
